My Baby Shower

Just before Thanksgiving, a few of the young women in the architectural and civil engineering program decided to host a surprise baby shower for me– complete with snacks, presents, and, my personal favorite, embarrassing games.  The girls bravely allowed me to videotape them attempting to feed each other baby food while blindfolded.  The idea was that we’d race to see who consumed the most in a minute, but I don’t think any of us could stop laughing long enough to really focus on the competition.  (Although the team in the middle did the best).

One of the things I love about Kingsville is that you really get to know your students.  Where else could a group of students feel comfortable surprising a professor like this?  It was very sweet, and I appreciate all of the thought they put into the shower.

As you’ve probably guessed by the title of this post, I will be taking some time off in the spring semester, pending the arrival of my second child.  This is my last blog entry for awhile.  I will be passing the video camera to one of my colleagues in civil engineering, and I hope that you will enjoy hearing about our college from his perspective.

Have a great holiday season!

Javelina Engineering Student Success Center

The Javelina Engineering Student Success Center (JESSC) was launched in Fall 2010 to increase student access to registration advice, career services, and other resources.  The JESSC is located in room 114 of the Engineering Complex.  Students can use the foyer for studying or computer work.  My favorite component is the bookshelf.  Professors have donated textbooks that students may borrow.

This video is a conversation with Sheryl Custer, the JESSC director.
